Bryan "Pop" Robson enjoyed two spells at Upton Park firstly signing in 1971 for a club record £120,000 from Newcastle United before being sold to Sunderland from whom he was re-signed for £80,000 2 years later. Both times the very popular Wearsider left the Hammers the following season the team went on to win the FA Cup - 1975 and 1980.
Pop was a very skillful player with a superb eye for goal, he fitted easily into Ron Greenwood's footballing philosophy where skill was allowed to flourish. A striker by trade he was also able to play in a more withdrawn position something that has become far more popular in the modern game.
